After more than a decade of work in academic and community-centered creative spaces, I founded Creative Alchemy BH in 2025 as a platform for artists to explore their roots, challenge societal and moral constructs, and engage with spirituality. This space is not only a hub for direct collaboration in developing new works but also a growing network of community-based artists. Through performative work, Creative Alchemy BH serves as both a lens and a mirror—a place for discovery, reflection, and transformation.
As a consultant, I view myself first and foremost as a collaborator in each individual's creative process:
With a background in Applied Theatre, specializing in Devising, Ensemble-Based Theatre, New Work Development, and Narrative and Counter-Narrative Storytelling, I am committed to fostering a supportive space where artists can embrace their individuality, experiment boldly, and grow collectively. Through practical resources and immersive exercises, I encourage personal storytelling and the exploration of lived experiences, empowering artists in their creative journeys.
Brittney S. Harris, M.F.A. is an internationally recognized professor of Applied Theatre, Performer, and Performance-based activist based out of Virginia, USA. She specializes in Performance as Activism, Community-Engaged Theatre, Applied Collaborative Technique, and Theatre for Social Change. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting with an emphasis on Cultural Enrichment from the University of Georgia.
Harris’s interdisciplinary scholarship, grounded in Performance as Research (PaR) methodologies, bridges critical social issues such as racial injustice, mental health, gender equality, and domestic violence. Her work examines the impact of vicarious trauma from social media and the power of storytelling in promoting resilience and redemption. This focus is reflected in her notable publications, including "Devised Futures: Creative Discourse" in Theater: Yale International Journal of Criticism, Plays, and Reportage, where she introduces her innovative "Umbrella Method" for narrative-based solo performance.
As the Devised Theatre Initiative Coordinator for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region IV, and through her affiliations with Alternate ROOTS and the Black Theatre Network, she is a dynamic leader in both academic and artistic communities. Her work has been showcased at national conferences and festivals, including the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), KCACTF, the Mid-America Theatre Conference (MATC), and the Black Theatre Network.
