Devised/New Works. A 4-VA Collaborative Research-funded summer intensive at James Madison University will use theater to share the experiences of newcomers (refugees) in Harrisonburg, VA. Participants will perform in community spaces to spark dialogue, fostering confidence, belonging, and equity through storytelling and performance.

AMPLIFY THE POLL!: CREATING CIVIC CARE- A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT FOR THE CLASSROOM 

As a C4AA Faculty Fellow, Fall 2024 I-ACT students collaborated with the Center for Artistic Activism to adapt Theatre of the Oppressed for election care campaigns at Virginia Tech, creating three group works on empathy, care, and community through performative activism.

Contributed the ‘umbrella’ method for immersive theatre, integrating sheet work, spectacle, and dialogue to explore environmental conservation and sustainable practices; collaborated with ODU Theatre and Rouge Productions.

Developed a narrative-based performance technique blending community storytelling and opera; collaborated with Opera for Us (Denise Battle) and Hampton Roads artists.

ECHOES: TRANSCENDING THROUGH STORY

Devised theatre piece centered on deliberately targeted the generational echoes of caution and criticism that ring in every woman's ears: that "mother within" whose cautions and criticism benefit only their oppressors.

Devised theatre piece exploring the psychological chaos of COVID-19, highlighting its contradictions, diagnoses, treatments, and social impact.

THREE HYSTERICAL WOMEN: EXPLORATIONS OF FEMININE RAGE

Co-Collaborator

Devised production exploring creative resistance to oppression through three solo pieces on gender roles, racial stereotypes, and social disparity, inspired by the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.


LIVING BEYOND SOUTHERN LIVING: PERSONAL NARRATIVES FROM SOUTHERN WOMEN

A year-long VT Feminist Theory project where grad students write and perform creative nonfiction on social justice and feminism at the Women’s & Gender Studies showcase.


VIRGINIA TECH HISTORY PROJECT, VOICES IN THE STONE

Project Consultant with Dept. of Theatre and Cinema, Dept. of English, Dept. of History

Long-term creative project in anticipation of the university's 150th anniversary in 2022; site-specific dance/theatre piece focused specifically on the narratives of the first Black women to attend Virginia Tech in 1966.

Performative, audience-immersive projects comprised of pairing with the Perspective Student Gallery, Virginia Tech Women’s Center, and Dept. of Theatre exploring the depths of embodying redemption through theatrical performance.

Laboratory workshop involving the collection of interviews, transcribing and creation of an oral history performance piece.


RESILIENT SUSTAINABILITY SIMPLIFIED: ADVANCING THE HUMAN CONDITION SYMPOSIUM

Engaged scholars and practitioners in equity-driven inquiry, collaborating with Dr. Madeleine Flint and VT students on a piece exploring structural sustainability and human impact.


THEATRE FOR YOUNG AUDIENCES PROGRAM

A service-learning project in community-based theatre, using Theatre of the Oppressed to explore social change. Co-taught workshops at Coile Middle School, Parkview Community Center, and other sites in Athens, GA.


ALWAYS KNEW: TRANSLATING IDENTITIES, QUEERING BORDERS

Co-Collaborator

Original devised theatre project utilizing collected personal narratives to explore the particular issues facing LGBTQ students, faculty, and staff at UGA and in the Athens community. Partnership with the UGA Latin American Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI), Portuguese Flagship Program (PFP), UGA department of theatre and film studies, and the UGA LGBT Resource Center.
